STUPID CANCER AFFILIATE NETWORK (S.C.A.N.)

Stupid Cancer Doctor Smart
PROGRAM GOAL

To ensure that – from the moment of diagnosis – every young adult affected by cancer is at bare minimum provided with the opportunity to discover and connect with the wealth of free, age-appropriate programs, tools and support resources available to them.

WHAT IS IT?

Too often when diagnosed or being treated for cancer, young adults are not told by their providers about the myriad young adult-specific support services out there for them to take advantage of such as weekend spa retreats, online forums and blogs, social networks, camping excursions, fertility education, peer counseling, college scholarships, financial aid, happy hours and more. This is not ok.

i[2]y is committed to ensuring that every cancer treatment and/or university health center in the United States is consistently stocked with a supply of our printed support literature and promotional materials. Once there, each of these institutions and facilities become part of the Stupid Cancer Affiliate Network and are made privy to all of our local, regional and national activities, often tying in to their own support events thus building and empowering the young adult cancer community.

Effective 2009, the i[2]y SCAN exceeded 600 members – including all 63 NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers – and is continuing to grow very rapidly. We have set an aggressive goal to grow the SCAN to 2,000 members by the end of 2010.

i[2]y is proud to be an emerging leader in provider education through health resource literacy for the advocacy of the AYA survivorship community. We proudly endorse institutions that serve these needs to improve health outcomes for this underserved population.
