BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Leonard Sender, M.D., Chairman of the Board
Leonard S. Sender, M.D. received his medical education in South Africa at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg and completed his pediatrics internship and residency at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center in Orange, CA. His pediatrics hematology/oncology subspecialty training included the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. Dr. Sender is board certified both in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. His professional interests are strongly centered on the diagnosis, treatment, and epidemiology of adolescent and young adult cancers (patients between the ages of 15 and 29). Dr. Sender is currently Medical Director of the Cancer Institute at Children's Hospital of Orange County; Pediatric Subspecialty Faculty Division Chief of Oncology; and Medical Director of Clinical Oncology Services at the UC Irvine Medical Center's Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Sender has developed the Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Program at CHOC and is recognized as an advocacy pioneer in young adult oncology.

William L. Wagner, Treasurer of the Board
William L. Wagner is the Director of Finance for the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, an internationally acclaimed dance company, where he oversees all fiscal, human, and administrative matters of the organization. William previously served as the Managing Officer, Operations & Business Development for the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) where he provided oversight of day-to-day operations and spearheaded business development and strategic initiatives. His passion for creativity and the arts led him to a 12-year career in modern dance prior to joining NYFA. His international performing arts career was primarily with the Mark Morris Dance Group. While performing with this troupe, he developed an arts-in-education project with Yo-Yo Ma, performed with other internationally acclaimed artists, and taught modern dance throughout the United States and Europe. William received his MBA from Cornell University in 2007 and BA from The State University of New York at Purchase. He currently lives in Westchester County, New York with his wife, Anne, and 5-year old son Thomas.

Aaron Spicer, Secretary of the Board
Aaron C. Spicer is an Executive Account Manager for Boundary Systems in Cleveland, OH where he and his company are resellers for PTC's CAD/CAM/CAE/PLM solutions. He became involved with i[2]y in 2007 after several years battling a rare form of testicular cancer called non-godnal germ cell seminoma, through which, he and his wife did not benefit from peer support channels, friends or family. Two years since his last chemo treatment, he applied to join i[2]y's Young Adult Leadership Council (YALC) to make sure others his age never had to battle the same issues that he and his wife did. In 2008 he was promoted to Regional Chair for i[2]y Ohio and then for the entire North/Midwest region. Beginning in 2009, he was appointed Chair of the YALC Cabinet, an volunteer development oversight Board, and was subsequently elected to the i[2]y Board, bring his perspective, opinion and enthusiasm to the table. Aaron lives in Akron, Ohio with his wife, Tiffany, two children, Brooke and Alexander and one grandchild, Ayden.

Matthew Zachary, Ex Officio
Matthew Zachary was a 21-year old college senior and aspiring concert pianist and composer en route to film school to become a Hollywood film composer when he slowly lost use of his left hand, was diagnosed with pediatric brain cancer (medulloblastona) and told he'd likely never perform again. Twelve years, four albums and scores of concerts later, Matthew's struggle to get busy living has inspired countless thousands. Today, Matthew is an award-winning musician and composer, accredited thought-leader in public health, a leading authority on the youth cancer culture, a highly credentialed and coveted motivational speaker, and a burgeoning social entrepreneur with the founding of the I'm Too Young For This! Cancer Foundation in 2007, a pioneering nonprofit organization in the Web2.0/Health2.0 space that was recently ranked a TIME Magazine Best 50 Website for 2007. A member of the prestigious Google Health Advisory Council, Matthew has 15 years of experience in advertising, youth culture marketing, information technology and visual communications for print and web in addition to strategic expertise public relations, consumer healthcare, nonprofit management and social media. Matthew has won several industry awards and has been recognized internationally for his innovations as a visionary trend influencer and change agent who has always been ahead of his time. A native of Brooklyn, NY, Matthew holds an interdisciplinary BA from the State University of New York at Binghamton that combined the music, theater, computer science, and sociology disciplines.
